Larian celebrates the departure of the exceptional role-playing game, and the community celebrates with them. After the last content update, there’s been an outpouring of cheers and love.
So much love: If you need to be in a good mood today, take a look at the corners of social media that are talking about Baldur’s Gate 3. There’s a party atmosphere there right now – even though it’s actually a farewell.
With Patch 8, Larian has finally finished Baldur’s Gate, and there will be no more new content. Only necessary technical adjustments, bug fixes, and so on. But rarely has a farewell been celebrated so beautifully. Let’s take a look at what’s happening right now.
“Thank you, Larian.”
The game’s subreddit has over 3 million users – and it feels like everyone is online right now sharing their thoughts on Patch 8. A meme that simply says “thank you” (without irony) has garnered 23,000 likes. It refers to the fact that many are now setting off for the Sword Coast for the umpteenth time.

Of course, it’s mainly the new subclasses that are getting a lot of praise, including a few fan favorites from the role-playing game. We’ll just say: drunk monks.
But even seemingly minor changes prove that Larian has listened carefully to criticism and taken it to heart for their final patch. This is now being rewarded with praise in the comments. A few examples:
- When characters find a hidden item, that item will now be displayed on the mini-map. This means that the person in front of the screen doesn’t have to pass their own perception roll.
- Discovered merchants now remain visible on the overview map, no matter how far away you are from them.
- In the Mod Manager (which is now integrated into the main menu), you can now disable and re-enable all installed mods at once.
To celebrate, Larian has also released what is probably the last animated video, in which the most important characters unexpectedly get into a fight with a dragon – see for yourself who saves their butts in the end:
Here, too, the comments are almost unanimously enthusiastic. On the one hand, because the question of whether you can actually fry eggs on Karlach’s six-pack is finally answered. And on the other hand, because it’s a nice ending. ImGonnaFudgeThatFish (ouch) writes a comment that gets a lot of agreement:
The fact that this is probably the last BG3 cartoon we’ll get brings tears to my eyes… I’m going to miss this.
This mix of euphoria and sadness is moving many fans right now. But Baldur’s Gate 3 will live on, even if Larian is closing the book for good. Thanks to mod support, the role-playing masterpiece is guaranteed a long life with many creative updates.
What’s next for Larian? We don’t know yet. However, they have already revealed in recent months that they will continue with RPGs – and that they are working on two new projects. Nothing to do with Dungeons & Dragons, but the possibilities are endless: Divinity? Pathfinder? A whole new brand? We’ll see. But first, it’s time for another Act 1!
