Stormind Games and Saber Interactive give an insight into the sound design of The Quiet Place: The Road Ahead in a newly published developer diary. As acoustics are a central element of movies, they are also a central factor in the game. The sound design not only serves to create an exciting atmosphere, but is also an important gameplay element. After all, the blind monsters can recognize us by the sounds we make.
Sounds – or the avoidance of them – are of central importance in The Quiet Place: The Road Ahead. To emphasize the importance of this atmospheric and gameplay element, Stormind Games and Saber Interactive have published a developer diary
In a world where every sound can be deadly, actions must be thought through and the volume of various objects must be balanced. For example, a squeaky gate or rustling leaves can give away the protagonist Alex’s position. She can only make progress if she hides well, distracts her opponents and sneaks cleverly through her surroundings. Sounds that are commonplace and of no great significance in our world can now make the difference between life and death. As a result, the sound design creates a gripping, tense atmosphere that fans will recognize from the films
