“Left, up, X, right, right, circle”. Anyone who played games like GTA on the old consoles many years ago will know these cheats only too well. Developer Eric Barone has come up with something similar for Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley 1.6: Unlocking multiplayer for iOS and Android
When you start the game, you will find yourself in the main menu of the farming simulation as usual. To start a multiplayer session, you have to follow a specific sequence of pressing the leaves around the “Stardew Valley” logo in the main menu. The image below shows which leaf on the tablet represents which direction:
- The keyboard shortcut: ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← →
- Then tap the question mark symbol in the bottom right corner to unlock the co-op mode.
As soon as the “Coop” button appears, you can use it to start the game with your fellow players. However, you will need the IP address of the respective host to join the game. According to the developer, you should ideally be in the same network.
How to find out the IP address:
- For iOS: Settings -☻ Wi-Fi -☻ Click on the “(i)” symbol next to the Wi-Fi name and then search for “IP address”.
- For Android: Settings -☻ Network & Internet -☻ Internet -☻ Click on the cogwheel next to the Wi-Fi name and search for “IP address”.

Can a PC host the game?
“The ideal ‘mobile multiplayer’ scenario would be to connect from a high-end mobile device on a local network to a PC-hosted farm (over Wi-Fi unless you have a way to connect your mobile device to Ethernet). This would be the best-case scenario.”
Stardew Valley: Why is multiplayer hidden?
According to the developer, this is still an experimental feature. You should expect bugs and other issues like sudden disconnections.
Eric Barone (ConcernedApe) emphasizes that multiplayer sessions via smartphones can be potentially frustrating. He therefore recommends that a PC take on the role of host.
