Amazon Games launched a brand new version of the popular online role-playing game with New World: Aeternum yesterday. For the first time, players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC can explore the mystical island of Aeternum across platforms. This expansion brings a breath of fresh air to the game, which was released in 2021, and aims to captivate both new and old players with revised content.
In New World: Aeternum, adventurers start on the mysterious island of the same name. Here they will find a dynamic open world that features action-based combat. Players can prove themselves in challenging raids such as the new 10-person raid “Lair of the Gorgon”, where Medusa and her army of soldiers await brave challengers. Equally exciting are the PvPvE battles in the “Cursed Mist”, where players not only face off against other adventurers, but also against the dangerous environment.
One of the most significant innovations of New World: Aeternum is the full cross-platform functionality that allows players on different platforms to join forces on their journey. Console players can also look forward to optimized controls, such as radial menus and controller input templates. These adjustments ensure that the game remains a great experience on the new platforms.
Criticism of New World: Aeternum
However, not all of the innovations were received positively by the community. While many players praise the graphical style and the revised sound effects, the console optimization has been criticized by some PC gamers. In particular, the forced adaptation of the user interface to the 16:9 format and the need to purchase the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion to gain access to all content have been negatively commented on.
Despite these criticisms, New World: Aeternum is celebrating a successful launch and has already reached 54,028 concurrent players on Steam, setting a personal annual record. Those who are not yet familiar with the game can now experience it on all platforms.
