The wait was apparently worth it: the first Red Dead Redemption is finally on Steam and gamers still love it deeply – but even here there is criticism.
After 14 years of console exclusivity, PC gamers can finally enjoy the first Red Dead Redemption. And it’s clearly enjoyable, as the user ratings show!
Stolze 93 Prozent of the nearly 1,000 players so far have given a positive review. But even some friendly reviews have some harsh criticism of development studio Rockstar Games in store.
What the players say
UserA Very big cheese voices his joy with a Western cheer and adds a reference to the zombie expansion Undead Nightmare, which is included in the game:
Yeehaw, the Wild West is dead and back from the dead and it’s as great as the first time!
On the other hand, Withinmakes fun of the fact that the PC port took so long:
Congratulations, you survived long enough to see Red Dead Redemption on PC.
Ed Koon couldn’t be happier with the game:
Exactly how a modern remaster/port should be. Double Eleven [editor’s note: the studio behind the port] has done an excellent job of maintaining the original vision while simultaneously raising the technology to current standards. Direct X 12 support, high frame rates, DLSS and so on. Now please do exactly the same with GTA 4.
However positive all this may sound, even many of the positive reviews have a negative point: the price. Mtropele writes:
Fantastic game, but 50 euros for a 14-year-old game is ridiculous. If it was a proper remake, with graphics like Red Dead Redemption 2 and new features, that would be okay, but this is just plain greed. It’s definitely worth adding the game to your wishlist and waiting for a discount of at least 50 percent.
Of the few negative reviews, hardly anyone complains about the game itself, mainly the price is criticized. For Booglog but a major feature is also missing from the PC port:
It doesn’t have multiplayer, which took up about half of the entire game.
Will you get back in the saddle and visit Red Dead Redemption on PC or would you rather get your dusty console out of the basement and play the original? What do you think of the price? Which game would you like to see a port like this made for PC? Feel free to let us know in the comments!
